Public Policy
"IE is
committed to a course of continuous dialogue with key decision
makers and the general public on important global issues."
Developing Our Workforce
Employees are a critical asset. Their development,
and the development of a well prepared work force for the future is
a critical success factor for our stakeholders. Our grants and
educational assistance initiatives seek to meet that need.
Sponsored by the IE Generation Fund, more than four thousand
students in grades five through seven, from two hundred and
sixteen public school districts in 42 States of the United States,
are studying the Science of energy. With competitive grant funding
from the IE Generation Fund, these innovative School Districts have
developed curriculum outlines based on the energy needs and uses of
their local geography. With Mentoring support from local IE
personnel, students learn important lessons about the role of energy
in their day-to-day lives, and the need to balance energy generation
and transmission requirements with environmental concerns.
Educating Key Decision
Makers
In the area of public policy, IE works through local government
and special interest organizations to educate and inform community
leaders and the general public on critical global issues related to
the environment, international trade, community business
development, and work force development.
The Environment
IE commits more than 4% of its revenues to programs
which protect and remediate our environment. These important
initiatives help to protect our natural environment for future
generations
Grants and Matching Fund Programs support the use of risk-assessment
in the development of public policy. IE programs in manufacturing
and power generation communities have resulted in land use reclamation,
open space conservation, air quality improvement and noise abatement
initiatives. Our business leaders work cooperatively with business
and management schools to include curricula focusing on sustainable development.
International Trade
In the global arena, initiatives supported by the Paul
Chevart-Brodan Trust (funded in its entirety by IE in memory of our
Founder) support anti-exclusionary trade policies, environmental
impact studies on a Global scale, and the development and analysis
of trade information for the use of policy makers. The PC-B Trust
also educates senior state department officials and other diplomats
about key international trade issues. The Trust enables these
international trade leaders to better understand and address the
needs of a global economy.
